Creative Sampling Workshop
During this 4 hour intensive workshop you will discuss your design plan.
- Based upon your design we will work on swatching and exploring the concept of building not only a design - but a working fabric through knitting.
- We will test swatches for the purpose of your design as outlined in your design plan. This is my favorite workshop to teach because your creativity is allowed to free flow and explore knitting stitches and patterns in ways we don't allow ourselves to when following patterns.
- We will discuss materials and important concepts including fashion, styling, form and of course the fit. (If you take the Design Plan Webinar in April - this Workshop will be offered in June 2021).
The Design Plan Webinar is a required prerequisite before taking the Creative Sampling Workshop. If you have not taken the Design Plan Webinar click here to register for the Design Plan Webinar.
After the Creative Sampling Workshop....
I will walk you through how to develop your Blueprint based upon your experimentation and results in the creative sampling stage. This will show you how to pull your findings into more of a cohesive, refined concept which will include the stages of pattern drafting. The 1 hour Blueprint webinar will assist you with writing your pattern draft from which you will begin fabricating (making) your design. (August 2021)
After the Blueprint Webinar we will meet for a 2 hour Fabricating Workshop. During this workshop we will review your blueprint draft, and see how your design is coming in fabrication. We will review the positives of your design. Additionally, we will provide supportive suggestions for troubleshooting any pesky design problems you may experience (which happen have no fear). Then we will test your design based upon your criteria from your design plan. (October 2021)
After the Fabricating Workshop you will a completed sample of your design made from your blueprint. At that point, I will walk you through the Pattern writing and development process. I will discuss how to write your pattern, how to edit, when to send it out to get edited, and how to find test knitters. Additionally, I will discuss the purposes of free vs published patterns, and how to create relationships with yarn dyers and vendors when designing for projects. (December 2021)
